- The explosion resulted in one fatality, the driver of the Cybertruck, and minor injuries to seven bystanders.
- The vehicle was rented from Turo, and it contained fireworks and potentially a bomb in its bed.
- Las Vegas Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill described the event as suspicious, suggesting possible links to terrorism.
- The same day, another incident occurred in New Orleans where a truck killed 15 people, and both vehicles were rented from Turo.
- Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, confirmed via X that the explosion was caused by “very large fireworks and/or a bomb” and was unrelated to the Cybertruck’s design or functionality.
- Musk also changed his avatar on X in response to the incident.
- All vehicle telemetry from the Cybertruck was reported as positive at the time of the explosion, according to Musk.
- The FBI and local law enforcement are currently investigating both incidents for any connections.
